The wind has been somewhat fickle recently, so my good sailing buddy Jake Miller, and I, decided to go to the coast to see what we could find. The first day, we drove to Manzanita with hopes of finding an escape from the 100 degree temps in the gorge, and some good wavesailing. We did find cool weather, but not enough wind. With a poor forecast for winds in the Gorge and on the Coast, we were unsure what to do. We figured the best chance was going to be the Southern Oregon Coast.
We arrived at Pistol River wednesday afternoon, and we got lucky. There were head high waves and strong winds filled in through the break. It was slightly onshore conditions, so the wave riding was mostly backside stuff, but there were some good meaty down the line snaps to be had as well. As Pistol is famous for, the jumping was reallly good. Jake and I took turns throwing big back loops and Push loops. All in all, it was a really good day, and somewhat unexpected. The forecast is pretty good, so we should see some excellent conditions in the coming days. Here is a pushloop sequence that Jake caught on the camera. I will post again with more updates.
See ya on the water.
