The second stop on the American Windsurfing Tour brought me to Pistol River, in Oregon. Pistol is always a fun place to sail because it is usually very windy. I use 3.7 or 4.2 most of the time. It’s one of my favorite places to jump. My jumping setup is a really fast 65L OES WavePro board and my 3.7 Ezzy Panther III. I feel like I can really go big, while staying under control with the compact gear. Here’s a shot for evidence! Photo by Trudy Lary.
As far as the competition goes, I felt like I sailed pretty well. I made it through a couple heats and ran into an on form Kai Lenny. That was it for me. For Pistol, I managed to place an overall 21st out of 33 total Expert Division sailors. I would still like to place higher, but it was definitely an improvement over Waddell, results-wise, for me.
Again, the local media pointed it’s lens at me. My sailing was featured on the two days that the local ABC news station covered our event. I wasn’t interviewed, but a lot of the action was focused on me. I guess they liked something they saw.
Here are the two videos.
