It’s time to pack up and head north.  Wednesday and Thursday were the only windy days this week, and with only a few campers left on the beach in the RV Park, there were only three sailors on the water.  March has been less windy than most years, but there were still some great days

For the past two months La Ventana sailors have been putting the Panther to the test on the Sea of Cortez.  They’re a group of windsurfers I call the Baja Test Crew.  They call La Ventana, in southern Baja, home for several months each winter.  The winter wind, waves, and swells are their personal playground. 

All the forecasters are calling for a major Norte developing in the Sea of Cortez this week.  Thursday’s forecast is for winds to 31 knots and seas 3-4 meters, which should satisfy sailors after last weeks’ cloudy skies and light winds.  The sub-tropical jet stream served up 3 days of overcast skies and 4 drops

We’re enjoying a few days of rest after a couple of weeks of great wind here in La Ventana.  Last week was 4.2 to 4.7 with big swells from several days of Norte winds.  The Norte also created perfect conditions for the Lord of the Wind contest in Los Barriles 35 miles south of us,

Mother Nature was not kind to Baja in the wind department the last half of December, with only 1 or 2 days of sailing a week.  The record rain storms that slammed southern California cut-off the normal winter pattern of north winds in the Sea of Cortez.  Windsurfers who came down for a sailing Christmas
